Effective January 1, 2025, to ensure a more transparent handling of shipments to Canada, the FedEx courier company will charge either the Goods and Services Tax (GST) or the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), depending on your region's local regulations.
This adjustment will require you to pay GST/HST directly. However, you can claim these payments from Revenue Canada at the end of the fiscal year, and they will be fully reimbursed.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
As per Revenue Canada regulations, all goods and products imported into Canada are subject to GST/HST, calculated based on the importing business’s province.
NEXT STEPS
During the customs clearance process, FedEx will request the GST/HST payment to a designated account. Once the payment is processed, FedEx will provide you with a receipt. The shipment will then clear customs and be delivered to your address as usual.
